Mourant advises Asante Gold Corporation on US$225 million gold mine acquisition

Mourant, a law firm-led professional services business, acted as BVI counsel to Asante Gold Corporation (“Asante”) on its US$225 million acquisition of Red Back Mining Pty Ltd from Kinross Gold Corporation.

Red Back Mining indirectly holds a 90 per cent interest in the Chirano Gold Mine, a mining operation in southwest Ghana. The Ghanaian government will retain a 10 per cent carried interest in the Chirano Gold Mine.

Asante is a gold exploration, development and operating company with a significant portfolio of projects in Ghana, Africa's largest and safest gold producer. It is listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange, the Ghana Securities Exchange and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Partner and Local Practice Leader of the firm's Corporate team in the BVI, Ian Montgomery, led the deal for Mourant, supported by Saraid Taylor (Counsel), Martyn Heyes (Senior Associate), Sarah Kerr (Associate), and Stewart Mclay (Associate).

The team worked alongside Canadian-based law firm Bennett Jones LLP in their role as lead counsel to Asante.
