Rachel Guthrie sworn in as the latest Notary Public at Mourant
15 September 2021
Rachel Guthrie who is Head of our Guernsey Employment practice has been sworn in as a Notary Public and now joins Alison Wood and Rob Shepherd in our provision of notarial services to our clients in Guernsey.
As a Notary Public, Rachel, Alison and Rob are able to authenticate and certify documents, transactions and information for use anywhere in the world.
Typical activities of a notary include:
• Authenticating company and business documents and transactions;
• Witnessing powers of attorney for use overseas;
• Authenticating personal documents and information for immigration or emigration purposes, or to apply to marry or to work
• Providing a notarial certificate in respect of matters such as corporate existence, due execution and capacity; and
• Arranging for notarised documents to be apostilled/legalised.
Demand for notarisation has increased due to worldwide anti-money laundering and "know your client" requirements and is often required in international dealings, where the identity and official role of the parties needs to be verified, to reduce risk of fraud.
