Mourant to focus Guernsey property offering exclusively on commercial real estate

29 May 2020

Mark Torode, who currently leads the Guernsey property practice, has decided to retire from the Mourant partnership to set up his own firm, specialising in residential conveyancing. Following Mark's departure, which is expected to take place in September this year, Mourant will cease to provide residential conveyancing services and will focus exclusively on the commercial real estate market. In the meantime, the Mourant team will continue to manage and complete all existing residential conveyancing transactions.

Mourant remains committed to its thriving commercial real estate practice in Guernsey, which will now be the firm's core focus for property services. This change in focus for Mourant's property team is a long-term strategic decision which was taken before, and independently of, the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mourant Guernsey Managing Partner, Matthew Guthrie, said: "We are pleased for Mark as he embarks on his new venture and are working closely with him to explore mutually beneficial ways in which we can work together in the future. We are also supporting Mark to ensure continuity of services to our Guernsey residential conveyancing clients during the transition period. Mark is one of the best known and leading property lawyers in Guernsey and will remain a close friend of the firm. As a result of this decision, we have started a redundancy consultation process with the members of our property team that are affected. This is of course a very unsettling time for those involved, and we are doing all we can to support them."
