Each for Equal

To celebrate International Women's Day this week, three of our people share how together we're helping to foster a gender equal workplace.

First up, Senior Business Change Analyst Allison McCully in our Guernsey office talks about the newly launched employee led Gender Balance Network, of which she is a member.

Empowering our employees to make change

Last year, I jumped at the chance to be one of the founding members of the Gender Balance Network in Guernsey. What really interested me was being part of an employee-led network where we could share our point of view and be empowered to drive change.

The focus of our network is to hold the firm accountable for having policies and procedures that are fair from a gender balance perspective and inclusive to everyone, irrespective of gender or circumstance.

Our network is made up of a diverse group of men and women from across our Guernsey team, all with a passion to improve gender balance across all roles and levels, including the development of our female talent.

That's one of the added benefits of being involved in an employee-led network - you get the chance to meet people from across the business who you may not ordinarily work with in your day job. It's also a great opportunity to listen and learn from different perspectives to gain a deeper understanding.

We’ve already kick-started a 'Career Conversations' programme, a series of talks where individuals in our team share their experiences and career journey to inspire others. Our inaugural 'Career Conversations' with Jessica Roland, soon to be Deputy Bailiff of Guernsey after a 21 year career with our firm, was very honest and insightful.

Jessica spoke about her journey, the positive support she received from colleagues, breaking down the barriers to be the first female Mourant Ozannes Partner in Guernsey and her exciting new appointment as a senior member of the Guernsey judiciary.

As a newly launched network, we recognise that we're at the start of our journey to driving greater gender equality. I'm looking forward to seeing the network grow and making a positive difference that benefits everyone.
