Getting ready for GDPR - ICO Tool
29 January 2018
In readiness for the introduction of GDPR in May 2018, the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published a helpful tool for ensuring compliance with the new regime.
Essential to preparation for compliance is the ability to identify and analyse the personal data that is being processed by your organisation. For many organisations, however, this is a wide-ranging and potentially daunting exercise.
With this in mind, the ICO in the UK has prepared a spreadsheet to assist organisations of all sizes in conducting a personal data audit, including example entries and guidance notes along with a template for completion.
For obvious reasons the template is tailored towards the UK's Data Protection Bill and the provisions of the GDPR itself, and not to the local legislation that in parallel is due to be introduced in the Channel Islands in May 2018.
Despite this, the spreadsheet will be invaluable to any organisation in Jersey and Guernsey looking to gain a head start with its preparation.
The template can be accessed here.
