Mourant pledges continued support to Hong Kong Football Club's rugby section for the 2024/2025 season
Mourant has recently renewed its sponsorship of the Hong Kong Football Club's rugby section for the 2024/2025 season.
The firm's partnership supports the senior section: seven men's and two women's teams in Hong Kong's domestic leagues, as well as a comprehensive programme of youth, colts and mini rugby programmes for almost 900 players of all ages.
Mourant is a longstanding supporter of the club, which has played a key role in the development and organisation of rugby in Hong Kong and Asia since its establishment in 1886. The elite men's and women's teams compete in the Hong Kong premiership and feature multiple internationally capped players.
The famous Hong Kong International Rugby Sevens was founded by members of the club and the tournament was first played at the Hong Kong Football Club stadium on its launch in 1976. It was hosted there for six years before outgrowing the stadium and moving to its current venue at Hong Kong Stadium.
Considered the premier tournament in the World Rugby Sevens Series competition, this three-day sporting event has become the most anticipated tournament in the World Rugby Sevens Series' calendar.
The rugby section of the club also organises the Hong Kong Tens, an annual tournament which has become the leading ten-a-side rugby tournament in the world, and is traditionally held the week preceding the Hong Kong Sevens event.
Paul Christopher, Managing Partner, Asia shares his view on the firm's support:
"Many of my colleagues and I have close ties with Hong Kong Football Club, across a variety of teams and sports. I am delighted to recognise the strong links Mourant has with the club, and in particular our playing connections.
"At Mourant we share many of rugby's core values in the work that we do. Our values are reflected in our sponsorship of the club's rugby section, and it shows our dedication to the club and the ongoing development of youth players in Hong Kong.
"Hong Kong Football Club has an incredible history and has enjoyed great success at the highest level in the region over recent years. We are particularly proud to support the women's teams which have gone from strength to strength in recent years. Inclusion is one of our key business priorities and is of great importance to us. We wish all the teams the best of luck for the season."
Mourant has a long history of pledging support to sporting organisations in the global jurisdictions in which it operates. Examples of other recent sponsorships in the Channel Islands include a longstanding partnership with the Guernsey Football Association, and the Jersey Netball Association's Team Jets youth and senior netball squads.
In the Cayman Islands, the firm is a proud supporter of Cayman Cricket and the Cayman Touch Rugby Association.
