Jersey charity, community, and fundraising highlights of 2024
Now that 2024 has drawn to a close, we have taken a moment to reflect on the charity and community activities that brought members of the Mourant Jersey office together over the past year.
Read on for a round-up of our 2024 highlights.
Tiny Seeds fun day
Over the August bank holiday weekend, Tiny Seeds, one of our four selected Jersey charities of the year, hosted a vibrant community fun day. Tiny Seeds is a charity dedicated to supporting people in Jersey who are experiencing infertility or who need the help of fertility treatments to conceive.
Despite an early bout of rain, the skies soon cleared to make way for an afternoon filled with live music, delicious food, and a range of fun, family activities. Our team of Mourant volunteers stepped up to handle tasks ranging from serving refreshments to managing flower crown making, and supervising the bouncy castle.
The community fun day truly highlighted the spirit of collaboration and community within our firm. It was also great to see so many of our colleagues and their families come together to support Tiny Seeds.
Charity presentations and cake sales
Throughout the year, we continued to support our four chosen charities by inviting them to our offices to share presentations about their work, purpose, goals, and achievements. To complement these insightful sessions, we organised cake sales to help raise additional funds for these important causes. Each session raised approximately £300 for the respective charity.
Raising awareness for men's health
November saw us embrace Movember with enthusiasm, raising awareness for men's health issues, including mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
Our Jersey team got involved in various ways, including the classic moustache-growing challenge, general fundraising, and participating in 'Mo's on the Move,' weekly five kilometer runs/walks to honour the 60 men lost to suicide every hour globally.
The annual Movember campaign is a powerful reminder of how small actions can collectively make a significant impact and raise awareness of critical men's health issues.
Volunteering with the National Trust Jersey
As part of our corporate partnership with National Trust Jersey, a number of our Jersey colleagues volunteered their time to help with conservation work.
Their efforts focused on hedge maintenance and bracken management, which is vital to clear space for saplings to grow, as well as providing much-needed shelter and protection for wildlife throughout the winter months.
This hands-on initiative showcased our commitment to preserving Jersey's unique natural and cultural heritage.
Festive fundraising
Our year culminated in a record-breaking festive raffle which raised nearly £3,000 for our four nominated charities of 2024: Autism Jersey, Caring Cooks, Eyecan, and Tiny Seeds.
Additional contributions
Throughout the year, we also pledged money to support a range of other charitable campaigns, including:
- £500 for Women in Fund Finance fundraising
- £500 for the JK Trophy entry fee, raising money for Autism Jersey
- £500 for the Prosperity event in aid of Jersey Hospice
- £500 for SAMAJ Jersey's Diwali celebrations
- £1,000 for SCOOP
Jersey sponsorship
At the beginning of the year, we confirmed our sponsorship of Jersey Team JETS U14, U16 and senior netball squads until the end of 2026. Mourant is a longstanding supporter of the club, having sponsored the teams since 2021. Our support will contribute to the JETS' travel costs, enabling the teams to compete in regional leagues in the UK and providing the players with the opportunity to experience competitions on a regional, and potentially national, stage.
We were also proud to sponsor the 2024 Tour de Jersey last summer, which raised over £16,000 to support the valuable work of Jersey Hospice Care. As well as providing financial support to facilitate the event, team Mourant also saw 10 of our own cyclists and their families participate on the day.
In addition, we continued our partnerships with the Blue Marine Foundation and Ocean Culture Life, as part of our commitment to the Mourant Ocean Pledge and associated marine conservation support.
And finally, as headline sponsor of the 2024 Jersey Heritage Discovery Days, our support enabled these events to be entirely free to visitors for the first time this year. It was extremely rewarding to see the popularity of the Discovery Days, which showcased Jersey's various heritage sites and local beauty spots, and offered a wide range of activities encouraging Islanders and visitors of different abilities to participate in the learning and fun. 'Discover Crafty Christmas' was the perfect final Discovery Day of the year to get everyone in the mood for the festive season.
Thank you to all our colleagues who contributed time, energy, and resources to support these valuable charitable and community causes this year. We look forward to continuing our efforts and making an even greater impact in the year ahead!
