Supporting Pride in 2024
Championing equity, diversity and inclusion and creating an environment where everyone can be their true selves is a key business and people priority for us at Mourant.
Each year we support Pride parades across our global locations, and we are proud to have continued our support through being part of Pride celebrations in London and Guernsey which have taken place in 2024.
Pride in London
Team Mourant was proud to support Pride in London for the second time on Saturday 29 June 2024. The official Pride Parade started from Hyde Park Corner, through to Trafalgar Square, culminating at Whitehall Place.
Around 500 groups from LGBT+ community groups, businesses and supporting organisations formed over 32,000 participants, with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, leading the parade. Our London colleagues enjoyed brunch in the office before heading to Trafalgar Square to join thousands of supporters enjoying the Pride concert and parade procession.
Our participation in Pride in London reflects Mourant's Inclusion vision of having an authentically inclusive one firm culture that embraces diversity and values mutual respect, where everyone feels like they belong and can thrive. We recognise that we all have a part to play to create an authentically inclusive culture across our firm, and as part of this we support Pride to celebrate the LGBT+ community, recognise progress that has been made in the LGBT+ rights movement, and raise awareness of on-going challenges experienced by LGBT+ people.
Channel Islands (CI) Pride in Guernsey
Every year, CI Pride alternates between Guernsey and Jersey hosting the event. This year's Pride, in
partnership with Liberate Guernsey, took place in Guernsey on Saturday 7 September. We were proud to have once again been Parade Sponsor of the 2024 parade; the sixth year in which the firm has supported the event.
Ahead of Pride, colleagues were invited to wear Pride colours in the office to show support and allyship for the LGBT+ community and celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
On the day, our Guernsey colleagues enjoyed a pre-parade get together, where everyone added some colour and sparkle to get into the spirit of Pride, before joining the festivities at Candie Gardens, where colleagues handed out Mourant branded Pride flags to parade participants in an inclusive demonstration of allyship and solidarity with the LGBT+ community.
Rachel Guthrie, Counsel & Notary Public, and Global LGBT+ and Friends Network Sponsor at Mourant, added:
"Our continued participation in and sponsorship of Pride parades is important to ensure we provide visible support and allyship to our LGBT+ colleagues, clients, and the wider community, as well as reaffirming our commitment to providing an inclusive workplace where everyone feels seen, heard, valued and respected."
The Mourant LGBT+ and Friends Network
Although Pride parades provide a moment in time to celebrate the LGBT+ community, recognise progress that has been made in the LGBT+ rights movement, and raise awareness of ongoing challenges experienced by LGBT+ people, it is important for LGBT+ inclusion to be part of our every day.
The Mourant global LGBT+ and Friends Network plays an important role in supporting and contributing towards the success of the firm's global Inclusion Strategy.
The network is open to all colleagues from all our offices to join and fosters a safe environment for our people to share experiences, knowledge and ideas to support LGBT+ inclusion and learn how to be effective LGBT+ allies.
